National Capital Commission approves amended Master Plan.
(Excerpt from email communique)
On Thursday, January 23, the National Capital Commission’s Board of Directors unanimously approved amendments to the 2014 Tunney’s Pasture Master Plan and a request from Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) to sell select land parcels of Tunney’s Pasture to Canada Lands Company. With this approval, a sale transaction between Canada Lands and PSPC can be finalized in 2025.
Canada Lands will continue the process of transforming the site into a transit-oriented, sustainable, inclusive community, connected to its surrounding neighbourhoods. As the acquisition is finalized, work continues with the City of Ottawa on the Draft Plan of Subdivision application to establish the municipal road network and development blocks.
Looking ahead, Canada Lands’ priority at Tunney’s Pasture is to enable housing as quickly as possible. To achieve this the Company is moving into the concept development phase of the project and the first phase of development will be focussed on the parcels that are most easily developed for housing.
Communities’ Perspectives Group (CPG) meeting update
The
Communities’ Perspectives Group, whose membership is comprised of individuals and organizations with a keen interest in Tunney's Pasture, has met frequently last year. At these meetings, members have had the opportunity to speak with experts and learn more about the City’s subdivision process and the Complete Street and Active Transportation Network, and to review several foundational documents for the redevelopment of the site.
Through the CPG’s ongoing involvement, the aim is to ensure Tunney’s is redeveloped into a community that embodies sustainability and becomes a model for how communities in Ottawa can be complete, healthy, and happy places.
The group toured
Wateridge Village, a mixed-use community currently being developed by Canada Lands just east of Ottawa’s downtown, to see firsthand how the company’s values of greenspace, parkland, sustainable development, accessibility, and inclusivity come to life. All members of the public are encouraged to take a walk around Wateridge Village to get a sense of how the vision for Tunney's Pasture will come to life!
