Genuine question: is Roderick Lahey colour blind? Is his goal in life to make all of Ottawa suffer his ailment by only designing buildings in shades of grey? The only buildings I can think of his that are not charchwhites are the Ashcroft canyon on Richmond (beige), the Re Residence on Sparks (beige) and the Somerset Square mid-rise that evolved from a charchwhite tower well over zoning to a (shockingly) red brick box.

That said, this is still a good project. Very happy to see a first high-rise on St. Joseph (along with a few others approved and proposed closer to the mall and highway).

It was approved last week.

The Dale and Galleria are other examples of non CharcWhites.

They are capable of producing work with colour, but it doesn't seem like the developers, city council, and/or the community demand much from them. Somebody at that firm, likely the principle himself, would love to see Ottawa become a monochromatic hellhole.

Right, Dale Isa good example of decent RLA. Kind of surprised Galleria was RLA. Was he responsible for Place Des Gouverneurs in a similar style?

UDRP's first comment should always be "add colour".

A snow clearing crew was on-site this morning moving snow to the edges of the property and exposing the ground surface. I wonder if they are getting ready to mobilize for construction soon?

Huh, and here I thought they still needed final council approval to get going on the newest design. Also would have thought they would at least wait until the snow melts before mobilizing and starting excavation.

I follow the local neighbourhood Facebook group for this area and while there are your typical NIMBY complaints about this project, I was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of supportive comments and even a bit of pushback on the naysayers. I think most people here recognize that building more housing is a good thing, especially right near the Place D'Orleans LRT station. Here's hoping we get some attractive retail on the ground floor and that this becomes a catalyst for further development along St. Joseph Blvd.

I live not too far from this property, so I'll be documenting this eagerly over the coming months. My only complaint is that it's an RLA design! 😝

We can't expect too much in Orléans ;)

Although I'm disappointed about Denizen not going through (hoping for something to happen in the next years). Maybe we'll finally see an Orléans skyline along the highway
