7000 Campeau | Kanata Lakes Redevelopment | Clublink, Minto, Richcraft

I feel like this should be in 'Real Estate' instead of 'Building', thoughts?
Yep. I meant to put it in subdivisions but this project has a lot more to it than the others. Not sure! Is it also possible to pull the recent chats from 'general' into this as well? Not sure how all that works.

Thoughts?
What if the city can buy half to 3/4 of it. Charge tax levies for Kanata (beaverbrook, beaverpond, kanata ridge, etc) for 40 years like they do in Barrhaven for their golf course.

Develop heavily along Campeau and Knudson. Medium density (mix of stacked towns and towns) that goes ~120m into the golf course from each road. Repeat the developments like Sawchuck, Robson, Stonecroft, Kinmount, and Catherwood; however, Campeau to have 15+ storeys along the road. They'll hate that but whatever - tall apartments are across from the club house already. Add more soccer fields, tennis courts, and usable space to liven the golf course.

Removes most of the issues including the water management issues. Leave the ponds where they are now. Everyone loses a bit for the win-win.

this feels like the only reasonable route of attack for Kanata residents

Councillors support motion to fight for Kanata golf course greenspace

ClubLink is not obligated to run a golf course in perpetuity, the courts ruled, but councillors say there are other avenues to preserve the land as greenspace.

Curry is setting a trap for her self that may be near impossible to get out of.

She keeps calling it green space so what if the city staff comes back and says yes the city should but it but not keep it as a golf course it should be turned into sports fields.

Something I missed was the city changed the zoning to REC3 as part of the zoning bylaw.

"Also, some other great news that came out of Council today was a zoning change for the KGC lands. It's now designated as REC3, for Recreational Subzone 3, a highly restrictive zone that has only two specific uses - an environmental preserve and education area, and a golf course."

This sounds like more lawsuits ahead.

It will be interesting to see how long the mayor supports her in this.

She's setting herself up to get re-selected. Those Kanata North residents don't care how much money is being wasted as long as it's for their benefit.

This Council and the Mayor seem to love losing in court. They've taken on so many lost causes, it's ridiculous. For a Mayor who's motto is "respect the taxpayers", he's been blowing our cash left and right and just the stupidest things while cutting where it counts.

Thing is there losing bad at some point you have to pack it in and say maybe we have no case.

I don't think they have that self awareness. For the PILTs fight, the judge started with asking the City Lawyer "did you even read the thing".

So, PILT on the 27th says "you must rezone your "Open Space" to R1Z. Here's your new bylaw as we over-rule you. The one you wrote is now obsolete." Council on the 28th vote to rezone it REC3 with even narrower allowable uses.

Does this then go back to OLT as I'm sure the developer will appeal the new REC3? This is nuts.

PILT: "The City of Ottawa Zoning By-law No. 2008-250, as amended, is hereby further amended in the manner set out in Attachment 1 to this Final Order. The Tribunal authorizes the municipal clerk of the City of Ottawa to assign a number to this by-law for record keeping purposes.
