Summary from Rocketphish on SSP Ottawa

Forum Asset Management is proposing to develop four (4) high-rise buildings and one (1) mid-rise building ranging from 9-storeys to 40-storeys in building height, at 530 Brisebois Crescent, part of the Forum Lands at 265 Centrum Boulevard. Ground oriented townhouse dwellings are proposed along Brisebois Crescent to create an animated and pedestrian oriented neighbourhood edge. The proposed development will include approximately one thousand five hundred (1,500} residential dwellings, a new community centre, and ground floor commercial and retail spaces. A separate Site Plan Control application will be filed for the Subject Site when the details of the proposed residential and mixed-use development are finalized.

The proposal will include the following: Residential Housing - Approximately 1,500 new homes are proposed across 3 buildings (inclusive of four towers and a mid-rise form), offering a range of unit types including one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units, as well as townhomes along Brisebois Crescent to create an animated and pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood edge.

Community Centre - A new proposed multi-purpose community centre will anchor the north edge of the site adjacent to the park, providing flexible indoor space for recreation, programming, and local events that serve both new residents and the broader Orléans community. The location and placement of the potential community centre was carefully chosen in consultation with the City of Ottawa’s Recreation and Park Department via an active working group.

Retail Space - The development will deliver active ground-floor retail and café uses along Centrum Boulevard, contributing to a lively and walkable main street character that supports local businesses and everyday convenience.

Mid-Block Connection - At the centre of the site, a mid-block connection will form a green community courtyard that connects Centrum Boulevard to Brisebois Crescent. The new mid-block pedestrian link will enhance permeability, improve walkability and create direct connections to the future LRT. Streetscapes will be animated with planting, seating, and transparent lobbies.

Landscape and Sustainability - The project integrates native plantings, green terraces, and stormwater management features. Tree-lined edges and podium-level gardens will contribute to the site’s ecological performance and microclimate comfort. Phased Implementation - The proposal will be realized through three coordinated phases, beginning with Buildings 1 (Tower D and Mid-Rise building E) inclusive of a proposed community centre, followed by Building 2 (Tower A) , and concluding with Buildings 3 (Tower B and C). Interim surface parking may be provided as interim condition between different phases of development.

In Luloff's Facebook post, most are responding they are ok with it except they all want 1000+ underground parking spots (and a more reliable oc granspo).

I know there a lot of units proposed here but 1000+ underground parking stalls in kind of nuts when you think about it.

The design of these and the proposal next door would be one heck of a change of pace. Build it!

A little bit of a hike to the LRT though. Mostly because of less than ideal walking path. Look at Place on Google maps. Are they even using 10% of the parking? I forget where I was reading the other day.. Either here/SSP/Reddit that the old anchor stores like Sears and The Bay had crazy parking minimums that they stuck the mall with.

Whats really going on here?

BTW.. I am by no means a grammar expert but CTV reporting is generally lacking. So I have to wonder if this story is even accurate.

Perhaps one of you disciples here can school me. Is it normal to write a number higher than 10 in numerical form.. aka. 30 storeys. and a number lesser than 10 in written form.. aka nine storeys?

I do not know what is proper.

Also.. where the heck did I read 1000+ parking spaces as per my previous post. I swear it was in Hoggys post. Maybe SSP. I'm getting blended across both sites now that I hang out here too.

CTV has been awful since Richardson and Matt left.

I feel like the only name I know that does good reporting is Kate Porter.

I wonder what Ron Corbett is up too these days. He wrote some decent opinion pieces for the Sun back in the day. His wife is Julie Oliver who was/is a photographer for the Citizen. Long story but she came to both my and my sisters place to take photos of us and some artwork that we had. I won't get into that but I ended up doing some work for them after chatting.

But regarding Ron, I was driving northbound on St. Laurent blvd one evening just past Montreal rd. Where the mini block of highrises on the east side and mid rises on the west side. People jaywalk there all the time with the bus stops.

It was night. It was raining. I am driving and I see a twinkle in the oncoming headlights. I didn't see anything but I paused and took my took off the gas. The next thing you know some ancient bag lady is right in front of my full size loaded van. Thankfully the lane to my right was open and I juked over at the last second and was able to slip by her. Had I not noticed the headlight twinkle and paused it might have played out very differently.

Anyways.. I look at my work helper.. Im like Jesus MFing christ that was close. You know what I should do? I should contact Ron Corbett and get him to write an opinion piece on this stretch of road.

This was before they added the beg button crosswalk and trimmed the 4 lanes down to 2.

Well guess what. 2 weeks later.. somebody got laid out and died in the exact same spot. On the weekend edition. guess who wrote a 2 page feature about that stretch of road? Ole Ronny.

Funny how that works.

FWIW this is pretty commonplace in technical reports I work on regularly. Not sure why, just how it's done
