Greystone Village | ?m | 9s | eQ Homes | Barry J. Hobin & A.

This whole development is ending up to be quite disappointing. Certain far from the worse in town, but a lot of what made it special has been stripped away.

You know - I agree and disagree? I frequent it fairly regularly and I'm excited when the construction will be over. Are there missed opportunities? Absolutely yes - there's still 'nice things' like the grand alley and the farmers market. Yes, it could have been better. The biggest disappointment for me has been the change related to the townhouses and I understand some city bylaw issues were a barrier (ie. cannot put a city park on top of an underground parking lot) or something like that which forced the change. It has to be more complicated than that. Perhaps someone here knows better. A second grocery store is moving in (farmer veggies of some sort) and the existing cafe's and restaurants appear to be doing really well. Nearly all of the business spaces appear to be occupied now including a McDonalds (boo).

I'm guessing in 5 years time, it'll be pretty good. Hopefully the school and daycare will be in, the convent w/ the addition will be completed, and the towers along the river will be done as well. I think then the only lot remaining for development would be where the showroom house was located for several years?

Ae there still plans to have a community center in the Convent?

Deschâtelets Building will house an elementary school, social housing and yes, sounds like plans for community centre space is still part of it.

I'm with you - I think overall this is a very strong development. The scale and execution of the condos on Main is perfect and the retail actually feels like somewhere you would want to spend time. The patios looking onto the Farmer's Market have done a great job of providing a focal point for the community. Likewise, the portion along the river is great, and will get better when the construction at the Deschalets building is complete. I don't love that they took out the curved townhouses, and the portion of the development towards Brantwood Park can feel a bit sterile, but I think once completed, this is a spot that I could definitely see myself living.

Do you have any more details on the grocery? That would be great news although hopefully it doesn't overlap too much with Nu's current offerings.

Would be great if they had what Nu is missing like a wider dairy selection, a meat department and full bakery.

Here's the storefront. Can't find anything online about it and I didn't see any construction permit so this is likely months away.

Cool. I really need to take a walk through here for the first time. I've only ever driven by on Main st. Quite nice buildings on average.

Has a bit of a Montreal vibe to it. There are one or two new build neighborhoods over there that resemble this but on a larger scale. Not sure what they are called off the top of my head.

On the back of the red brick convent, I was driving by and noticed two excavators on site. I wasn't able to stop and take a closer look. Hopefully I'll be able to snap a photo next time.
