    Barrhaven: Beyond the Greenbelt

Yeah, that point about one spouse working downtown and one working in the burbs applies to a lot of families. I think the small lot/attached housing goes beyond price pressure too. A lot of developers are saying townhouses with postage stamp lawns are "new urbanism" and transit friendly...

    Barrhaven: Beyond the Greenbelt

I don't really know what the point of Barrhaven is. It's very high density, many of the new homes are attached housing, no yards, stupid winding roads that don't connect, etc. You don't get the benefits of living in the suburbs (like a single detached home with a big yard and privacy) but you...

    Suburban Ottawa inside the Greenbelt

^^transit is excellent in this area. The busway is called the Transitway and runs through here with express buses coming every few minutes at peak times. All the neighbourhoods have local routes that feed the stations on the Transitway. I've taken the Transitway every single work day since...

    Downtown

The Market is bustling all the time, downtown (especially Sparks Street) is pretty dead except during business hours. What you see in these photos is almost entirely 9-5 office buildings and these photos were taken on the weekend. The exception is when there is some event going on, like Canada...

    TO ME, iT D'OSNT MATTER

#23 is an explosion of crazy roofs in downtown Hull. It's a restoration of the old Hotel Chez Henri. Most of the building was accidentally destroyed in 2009 when the renovations began. All that was left were the lower brick walls on the sides visible in the photo. Here's what it used to...

    TO ME, iT D'OSNT MATTER

It's taken a while to get used to Ottawa, it has a much different feel than Hamilton. Ottawa is very positive, thriving, and has a lot to offer, but as is often heard, it really is a bit bland and lacking soul, especially compared to Hamilton. Of course it's quite a bit colder too, but there...

    Parliament Buildings

I was no fan of the Parliament Buildings but I tried to look at them with fresh eyes and can appreciate them for what they are. They are undoubtedly dark and churchy, and they echo our British past maybe a bit too much, but the solemnity seems suitable for our type of government. The other...

    Downtown

Ottawa has quite a few interesting buildings. The problem is there are way too many 14 storey tinted glass boxes. I hate those, and that's probably what defines downtown Ottawa to those who visit (the Parliamentary district notwithstanding). Many Ottawa buildings would actually be nice if...

    Ottawa's famous BYWARD MARKET

I think they've done a nice job with infill in the market. You can see in the pics quite a number of modern buildings, mostly low-mid rise buildings that blend in nicely with the streetscapes. Some high rise condos have even went up in the last few years. Niegbhourhoods like this need local...

    Ottawa's famous BYWARD MARKET

OTTAWA | ByWard Market ByWard Market The ByWard Market is Ottawa's most vibrant district, ofering shopping and dining for tourists and residents alike. A farmer's market has operated here since the mid-1800s, but today the area is dominated by restaurants, pubs and night clubs...

    Ottawa's Skyline

The tall brown building is part of les Terasses de la Chaudiere. All of the large office buildings in Hull are Canadian Federal Government. There is no public observatory, but I was on the 24th floor of Place du Portage Phase 1 the other day and snapped a few quick shots with my point and shoot.

    Ottawa's Skyline

A couple different angles of Hull. The building on the far right in the first picture is where I took the pano from (24th floor). The brown building on the left of the bottom picture is the tallest in Ottawa region.

    Ottawa's Skyline

The shot was taken from the 24th floor of Place du Portage. Hull has a skyline, there are far fewer buildings but a couple of them are taller than downtown Ottawa's buildings. I'll post a picture of the Hull skyline tonight when I get home.
