Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

I envison a shallow cut and cover underneath Colonel By.. that would be easier to do through sandy/unstable soils than a bored tunnel like the Confederation Line is.

Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

The easiest way to bring rail back into the core would probably be a cut and cover rail tunnel underneath Colonel By to link up with the old Union Station. Colonel By is not a particularly critical traffic link so it could stand being closed for a year or two.

The Transitway from Hurdman to Blair will be closing for LRT conversion on June 28th. This closure was originally scheduled for October. So far, it continues the streak of all work being ahead of schedule. It does mean the construction is now entering its nasty phase... that of bus...

Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

Essentially it's a cheap cut and cover underneath a realigned SJAM. As part of the realignment the SJAM will lose its grass median and form a much narrower ROW. More of a urban arterial style road than the existing freeway-style road.

They've called a press conference for tomorrow morning at 10:30. Early details leaked imply that a compromise was reached. Notably, the press release is a joint NCC-City of Ottawa announcement which is a very good sign.

They really should add in an additional station at Jasmine Crescent between Blair & Montreal if it's on the north side. Lots of high density housing low income areas in the area plus lots of redevelopment opportunities.

On the topic of the Baseline BRT, the EA is now underway. So far the city has indicated it's going to use a median-BRT arrangement, in its direct words "akin to the VIVA Rapidways in the Toronto area". They're an inspiration now, be proud York Region :)

Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

The new Confederation Station will have its platform just north of Heron but will have station exists on both sides of Heron via a below grade pedestrian crossing (essentially a pedestrian pathway adjacent to the tracks). This is important because the Baseline BRT is going to be going through...

Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

Went to the one on Tuesday, didn't have a chance to post until now. The EA is indeed looking at two spurs... the Trillium Line (existing O-Train) will split at South Keys into two, one going to Bowesville Road along the previously approved 2006 LRT ROW, another going to the airport. The issue...

Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

Its got a giant overpass that goes over Riverside, the SE Transitway, and the train tracks. The curve at the top of the white line provides access to Riverside Drive. There's bus ramps that provide a fast link from it to Hurdman. Preliminary construction started a few months ago, I think it's...

Ottawa Confederation Line LRT (City of Ottawa, U/C)

The Rochester-Byron route would be almost as fast. Probably only about 1-2 minute time difference, mostly because it would have one additional station. The Parkway-Richmond the NCC just prohibited would add 2 infill stations between LF & Dominion--one at Cleary Av. and another at New Orchard...
