Rendering. No DevApp yet, so I won't change the thread title until it's official.

27 floors does feel out of place here. Maybe just just an opening negotiating stance from the developer?

I liked the earlier proposal and was hoping it would start soon. Oh well.

Yeah, I don't get why we need towers EVERYWHRE. We have plenty of zones that allow towers. You want to build a tower? Build somewhere that allows towers. You want to build a mid-rise? Build somewhere that allows a mid-rises. Otherwise you're wasting everyone's time and money by fighting to build taller when you could build this tall or taller a couple blocks north. We need high rises, we need mid-rises, we need low-rises. We need variety within the City. In places like Westboro that could create a nice tapering/step-down effect if zoning is respected.

We're not running out of space. I prefer we focus on developing certain areas and finishing those instead of spreading the the towers thin and having a bunch of partially completed areas. At the end of the day, with organized zoning or a free for all, we'll end up with the same number of new units.

With that said, it doesn't matter. If the City and Mastercraft Starwood "compromise" and they end up getting approval for 18 floors, well then might as well build 27. Alternatively, they go to LPAT that's essentially a rubber stamp factory.

I think the issue is not so much about this tower its certain people are aginst anything in the core.

That's what I call "true NIMBYism", those who think we should have a 6 storey limit everywhere and LeBreton+Zibi should be giant parks. Those who oppose even developments that are within zoning rules. Those who opposed any change regardless.

Leiper has been pushing for densification. He's been supportive of towers on Scott and small scale infills in Hintonburg. He's supported upzoning much of the inner Greenbelt. Once in a while, he does oppose projects that are well out of whack of existing zoning. Even with that, some will call him a NIMBY for this opposing this one proposal.

If you look at Chianello i don't think she is as open to densification she is more like Menard.

Potentially. I don't have enough info yet. So far, I've only heard her oppose this project (as far as I can remember).
