Existing building at 16-18 Hawthorne was demolished today

Wild. One of my two closest friends lived at 16 for over 10 years until recently. All that's left is the memories!

Always sad to see pre-war buildings come down, but understanding the need for housing, and the decent design of what's proposed, I accept this change in this context.

This one is paused after excavation, surely because Hawthorne is all torn up by the city for utility work.

On a sidenote, anyone know the timeframe on when all of this watermain work on Hawthorne is supposed to wrap up? Am I crazy but wasn't it either torn up or repaved back in 2023 too?

It's located in a very desirable area, it doesn’t need to invent its location.

And the building looks good. I like the height, density, materials and colour palette! I also like that so may units have balconies. The developer could have simply copied this design for 335 Roosevelt instead of creating something so bland (and no balconies)?

Edit: I meant 398 Roosevelt, e.g. The Westmount. Same developer, but significantly less appealing building.

I like the design but I really wish some of these new builds would include a few 3 bedroom units.
