Really liking this project. Very unique for our skyline, and of course happy to see heritage retention.
Would be more than amazing! Great idea! Will be nice to see that historic building alive gain. I like the stepdowns and the glass on some of the upper levels. Would be great is it was a bar/restaurant on that 6th floor rooftop. If only that portion of York St could be pretied up.. Right now its mostly just parking. Imagine if parking was removed and another park/plaza was created (Market could be book-ended with 2... this one and the other with the Ottawa sign). Some colourful pavers, seating, music would go a long way.

/s - Fixed it for youGreat! All of the development in Byward Market must be changing the vibe of the area? Less sketchy?
Time will tell. Most of these projects aren't open yet, so there isn't much of an impact. I do find Rideau to be considerably better with the AC Marriott frontage and Metro further down. Still a lot of vacancy towards the Bay, and soon there will be one more massive vacancy.Great! All of the development in Byward Market must be changing the vibe of the area? Less sketchy?
Hopefully History (the venue) will improve the Market considerably. Incremental improvements to public realm should also help (if done right). But until we make a dent in the homeless crisis, the social problems will remain.Time will tell. Most of these projects aren't open yet, so there isn't much of an impact. No doubt that it is a much bigger problem than the Market. I would be interested in whether some of the policing strategies being used in smaller places like Peterborough might make a difference here. I.e. no tolerance for open drug use, but providing people with an alternative in a safe injection site or treatment. Probably harder to do in a bigger city, but it would make sense to focus efforts on the Market and then Centretown.Hopefully History (the venue) will improve the Market considerably. Would be nice to see the Ottawa Police and the City of Ottawa look to other cities (and countries) on how to best handle the issues we're having. I have little faither unfortunately. No doubt that it is a much bigger problem than the Market. I wonder about the impact History will have. It will definitely be a boon to the area at night, but it is likely to be pretty quiet during the day unless they incorporate cafes and bars that are open during normal business hours. Seems unlikely that it will ever be able to offset the activity that will be lost from an empty Bay store, and that will not have a quick solution.
With zero irony... yes! People in Ottawa are so sheltered and never get out the market is fine. The same as ten years ago you're at more threat from a drunk guy looking for a fight at 1am than someone on the street.Great!
