General Update/Rumour Thread

More on Westgate plans:

In an emailed statement, River Ward Coun. Riley Brockington said that all tenants of the Westgate Shopping Centre have been told to vacate by Oct. 31 2025.

He also confirmed the building will be demolished, but that its timeline remains unknown. Shoppers Drug Mart will remain standing.

It’s also believed the residential component of the site has been reduced, with a new grocery store being built once the aging mall comes down. It will serve the surge of new residents moving into the area, including at the Talisman Apartments across the street. City council has approved plans for 24 towers to be built between Merivale Road and Clyde Avenne, which will create housing for about 9,000 new residents.

Sounds like they're going to Lincoln Fields it and just demolish, keep the pharmacy, build a big box grocery store and just sit on it. At least they build one tower.

Probably a 24-27s tower from RLA, that would be my guess. I doubt those taller towers are part of the plan anymore, they don't seem to be investing much into Westgate. It's surprising considering 78 floors of rentals just went up across the street.

Yeah, they really missed the boat.

Wasn't sure where to drop this but there's a Development Dashboard created by city of ottawa:

"In response to the growing demand for greater transparency and timely information on housing activity, the City of Ottawa has developed a new housing approvals dashboard, a centralized, interactive tool designed to track Ottawa’s residential development activity."

Kind of ironic that it's closing now that they have just built so many towers and residential units nearby... I'll be annoyed though if its torn down and the lot sits empty or underdeveloped for the foreseeable future. They developed that site across the street so quickly, not sure why this one has taken so long for movement after that first tower.

The grocery store is being built right away, but I doubt we'll see ground break for a new tower in the next year.
