Now we just need a solid proposal for the last remaining lot on 'Parkdale Row', 139 Parkdale, after that silly little 9 story building was cancelled. 40 stories would be great.
I like the vertical banding. If an otherwise unremarkable slab needs shapes in the brick to break up the massing, I find this more tasteful than random crosses and rectangles.
Wow, they are planning to tear down a major building (and my favourite bowling alley) to build this. Gatineau really loves expropriating.
The new design reminds me so much of the new library at Agora in the Plateau.
Things are a little tight at Kingsett right now, I'm a little worried about this project's prospects:
Canada’s KingSett freezes payments on US$3.5 billion property fund
That's really too bad, that was my favourite feature of this project. Not Claridge level bait and switch, but still a little disappointing and disingenuous.
Is this the first large '90's revival' style project in the city? I know everything in art, fashion, design, and music comes back in fashion at some point. This project looks more like Commodore's Quay in Bayshore than any 21st century building.
I'm still holding out for a 50+ story signature development in Downtown Hull with an Observation Deck/Restaurant, something I know they are gunning for.
I'm not digging the solar panels at all. It seems like a little bit of silly virtue signalling. Surely more power could be generated by dedicating more of the roof to solar power. I think they have done enough practical design for efficiency that they didn't have to bake it into the facade.
I can't see surface parking, because quite frankly it would be a security nightmare in that location. Same with a park. If they aren't building out the other tower, I can only imagine it being a fenced off site for a few years.
Interesting trend on Scott in Westboro with the highrises pushed up against he road, and low/mid rises extending a block behind. Three projects in a row. Granite curling club will be a little like that as well.
I was just thinking...if they actually go through with the giant mural on the East side of Andaz, it's really only going to be visible to the hotel guests here...
