SSP Discussion.

Hope to include everything that's NCC owned waterfront on the Gatineau side, including the NCC Ottawa River North Shore Parklands Plan, Ruisseau de la Brasserie and Victoria Island. When these become actual building proposals, we can shift some of these discussions to the Building forum.

Ottawa River North Shore Parklands Plan presentation and materials from today's NCC Board of Director's Meeting.

Westboro Beach, located on the Ottawa side of the historic Ottawa River, is a vibrant and accessible destination for all seasons. Recently reopened, Westboro Beach offers new ways to enjoy the scenic shoreline.

The site features renovated pavilions, a year-round restaurant, a seasonal café, and a supervised swimming area. New additions also include riverfront lookouts, a playground, and outdoor showers.

In summer, you can enjoy a picnic, swim, rent water equipment or play volleyball. In winter, you can go sledding or ski, snowshoe, snow bike or hike on a multi-use winter pathway that leads directly to the pavilion.

Westboro Beach is a part of the Ottawa River South Shore Riverfront Park Plan, which calls for the creation of a continuous riverfront park between LeBreton Flats and the Mud Lake conservation area.

Sustainable and accessible are just some of the ways the National Capital Commission (NCC) is describing its newest gem.
Westboro Beach has been closed partially since 2022 for a revitalization plan that included accessibility designs and a zero-carbon pavilion. Located at 745 Kichi Zībī Mīkan, the beach area gives people a new way to enjoy the Ottawa River.
The year-round restaurant is open 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., a seasonal cafe and lots of riverfront lookouts.
It’s not just for one season, the NCC notes the area was designed to accommodate all Canadian months.
“In summer, you can enjoy a picnic, swim, rent water equipment or play volleyball. In winter, you can go sledding or ski, snowshoe, snow bike or hike on a multi-use winter pathway that leads directly to the pavilion,” the organization said.

Some of the new upgrades include:

  • Rehabilitation of existing Strutt pavilions with washrooms and change rooms to meet accessibility standards;
  • A renovated lifeguard space to support the municipal beach operations;
  • A new year-round park pavilion;
  • A landscaping improvements;
  • Improved safety for the multi-use pathway and a new parking lot south of the parkways.
The budget for the project was $21 million including $13.5 million from the city.
