With Ford wanting to build a world class one in Toronto on its own island i doubt he would have invested more in Ottawa.

from the Rideau Centre leasing plan, last update Feb 2, 2026. Notice the "unknown" compared to vacant for other units.
Doesn't make any sense. The second floor is accessible from the mall and would make sense to subdivide. The third floor has escalators from within the former Nordstrom space. You can't really subdivide the third without subdividing the second as well.

I think you have the floors confused
First: Shoppers, LCBO, Farm Boy, Zara
Second: Food court, Indigo, Apple
Third: Simons, Harry Rosen, Nordstrom

Well yeah, the reality is Ford has no interest in Ottawa ever. He's just Premier so he can play Sim City GTA edition.
Of course. Thank you for the correction. That still leaves the fourth as a potential expansion of the convention centre...but the ceilings are far too low. They would have to raise the roof and all of the mechanical that sits on top of it that the other floors rely on. I guess the dream really is over.

Having a Dollarama in the Rideau centre when there's already two Dollaramas on Rideau Street would be a wild decision

Downmarket yes, but also a big driver of traffic and a useful store for the apartment dwellers attached.
The other stores mentioned are definitely not downmarket, and have big footprints. I'm surprised at Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn, as I thought both were shrinking their footprint in Canada. If those plus West Elm are all coming, it would have to be the Nordstrom space, as nowhere else in the mall has a big enough vacancy.
Was really hoping Indigo would realize their mistake and find a bigger location.
Yeah, as much as I'm happy for the history venue, the new Indigo doesn't compare to the old Chapters. I'm afraid that if they moved to any other location other than directly on that block of Rideau, they might not do as well, so the only other option would be the Freiman's Building.

78 871 sq ft + 112 855 sq ft over two floors for Nordstrom.
My guesstimates for sizes.
Pottery Barn: 8820 + 5538 (14 300 sq ft for both adults and kids, Sherway number)
Williams Somonas: 8000 sq ft (carrefour laval size, back in the day, they downsized so weird)
West Elm: 11 000 sq ft
Dollarama: 20 000 sq ft (I am guessing, since they are growing, and recent new large ones in the city are around 16 000 sq ft)
4 stores, that's 53 000 sq ft. There's still a huge amount to fill. There's also 8000 sq ft for lease beside Uniqlo on that same floor leading to Hudson's Bay.
