New Ottawa Senators Arena

Seems promising (paywall)

Certainly. We may not have to wait until December like we had thought. Seems this could be done in time for the September Board Meeting.

Otherwise, Leeder seems to think the team will continue to play in Kanata for another 5 years, suggesting a Fall 2030 opening for the LeBreton Arena. The team has been making progress on design for the new arena, so they should be able to hit the ground running once the deal is signed (but after first decontaminating the land). The Sens will also continue investing in the Palladium over the next few years to continue enhancing fan experience, despite its days being counted.

Please. This needs to be done soon.

I hope Senators still do the arena with the multiple towers, that will be an amazing addition to Lebreton.

I'm a bit worried that the housing market might have soften to the point where multiple towers (at least initially) could be a tough sell. I'm sure they'll at least build a luxury hotel tower for the NHL teams and artists performing at the Palladium 2.0.

NCC and Senators have signed an agreement of purchase!

Statement is here: https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/news/joint-st...mmission-and-capital-sports-development-inc-2

The NCC and Capital Sports Development Inc. (CSDI) are pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement of purchase and sale for land parcels totalling approximately 11 acres at LeBreton Flats. This agreement is a key step in bringing a major events centre and arena district, including mixed-use development, to LeBreton Flats.

With the agreement of purchase and sale finalized, both parties can proceed with next steps in the project. These include zoning, design and approvals, as well as decontamination of the land parcels to prepare for construction.

Amazing news! I wonder how fast it will take to get designs approved and shovels in the ground. I have to imagine there has already been a lot of behind the scenes work on those aspects so that they would be ready to go come approval of the sale.

Maybe other projects such as the East Flats will be reborn? I believe there some were on pause

Spoonsy on SSP found a map showing the Sens' parcels.

The latest on the project
On August 11, 2025, the NCC and CSDI entered into an agreement of purchase and sale of approximately 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of land to bring a major events centre and arena district, including a mixed-use development project, to LeBreton Flats.

The agreement lays out obligations for both parties on items such as decontamination of the land parcels and building of infrastructure elements crucial to the success of the project.

About the project
CSDI is proposing to build an NHL hockey arena and events venue, a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in the Preston corridor, and a mixed-use development at Parcels A1 to A5 of the LeBreton Flats Master Concept Plan. The project would be located on Albert Street, between City Centre Avenue and east of Preston Street.

Read the Master Concept Plan to find out more about the vision for LeBreton Flats.

The NCC launched a request for expressions of interest in December 2021, which attracted multiple submissions. The NCC examined all of them, with the intent of securing a feasible and successful project.

Thank you. So there is room for a 30 storeys or more high-rises.

I always found that some developers seem to avoid showing pictures of their projects during the winter months. The NCC does a good job with pictures showing scenes with snow in it.

Looking at the max height and the lots allocated to the Sens, they could, in theory, build the event centre and the following towers...
1x 40fl
2x 30fl
2x 20fl
1x 12fl

Hopefully those figures are minimums. Dream was able to go from 2x30 to 31 and 36. I would expect the Sens to push for a little more height. The 5-star hotel attached the the arena should be at least 40 floors.

The renders that were making the rounds months ago...is this the actual proposed design, or just a concept image?

That's just concept art from when they initially bid for the 6 acres in 2021-2022. I don't expect the final concept to look anything like that. With 11 acres, they have a bit more room to breath.
