This isn't very reassuring.

For comparison, this is around 11.5 acres at the ice district in Edmonton, which includes:
  1. NHL arena
  2. Stantec tower - 69fl
  3. JW Marriot - 55fl
  4. Public plaza
  5. Community arena
  6. Grand Villa casino

People have been having a complete melt down thinking this means the team is asking for large sums of cash for the rink.If you look at the people there meeting with this does not seem to be the case its more about housing etc.

Yeah, seems they are trying to tap into existing programs instead of Oiler/Flames style "give us new money". In the case of the Flames, it's just an arena (and a parking garage). No housing, no hotel, no offices, no added entertainment . There's a lot more community benefit here that can be supported by these existing programs.

The Flames arena is a bad deal really bad as its just a rink.

For the arena i don't think they will ask for any money. Now with that said do i think they would turn don money if were offered no and they would be stupid to.
Circling back, I hope they try to tap into existing programs where possible to help build the Ice District around the arena quicker. Nothing wrong with that. But yeah, great to hear that he has no intention of demanding public funds for the arena.
